Earthquake Disaster—Prevention or cure

I am really sorry for all those people who have been severely affected from the very recent 6.8 quake that hit in the capital, as well as in northern Nepal- India border. As, we are all aware from the world news that natural disaster (for example, tsunami in Japan, volcanoes in Iceland, tornadoes in America and whatnot) is happening all over the world.  Millions of people all over the world have been affected with the natural disaster. The bad news is that we cannot do anything about them. But, the good news is that we can take steps to reduce the casualties and injuries caused by them.

Earthquake does not necessarily cause damages. It is just a shifting of plates beneath the surface of the earth.  What causes damage are the objects that are build on the top of it, and the ways in which, they are designed or build.  The damage is more severe when people start to feel fear and lose their night’s sleep.
In Kathmandu, we have build houses like stray dogs. There are no empty places even for pedestrians. The scattered arrangement of houses and buildings can be best seen from the window of a domestic airliner. Anywhere you go, you can find just materialistic buildings, ranging from small hut to big bungalows. There are old, traditional houses that are not repaired for several hundred years.

One thing that worries me little is the influx of people from different parts of remote villages to the capital, is rapidly growing daily. We have started to live more, with the less, and there can be great debate on this topic on our expectations from the city, or from Kathmandu-ties living morality.

Another thing that worries me little is about the recent news on “the end of the world” in 2012. But the NASA scientists based on their scientific facts and understanding has clearly reported that earth will not end in 2012 so we can firmly believe them.  However, scientific knowledge is always limited and we cannot make righteous prediction on the Nature or, the happenings caused by the mother earth.

To minimize casualties of natural disaster is not easy. Since we have limited scientific instruments, and we are lot busy in our own political quagmire—a change in political leaders, an indecisive meetings, providing zero outcome, war of various ideologies, ethnicity and dogmas among different political leaders and pundits. If only we have knowledge prior to natural disaster (e.g. earthquake prediction system) then we can minimize casualties and moreover, we can prepare for it, well-in-advance.

Some wise man has rightly said that “prevention is better than a cure”. Therefore, being a cyberpunk and reporting a casualty in social media (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, and Google+) is important, what is more important is, to take measures to reduce casualties by making appropriate decision while designing or building your sweet homes.

No respite

I know how to resist nationwide general shutdowns called by “whoever” it may be. Walk about one hour from home to work and vice versa. Bandhs may be leisure time for some, but many suffer enormously. Bandhs cost our nation millions, if not billions. It is the ordinary people who are worst affected, be it the bandhs or the wait for the constitution. The people remain the losers whatever the case. The politicians will never stop playing politics because that is their job, and create trouble for us.

Passport adventure

DEC 29 -
As technology engulfs the world, every office and organisation must become tech-centric. Recently, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) in our own country has launched the much hyped Machine Readable Passport (MRP). The good news for me was that I could apply for one of these high-tech passports for my wife. The bad news was that we still had to stand in a long line to do so.

On the first day of our passport adventure, we went to the MoFA and waited in a queue to receive a “free passport application form.” We were excited to see that the queue was quite short; it only took us five hours to reach the front. Feeling pretty good, we decided to fill out the application the next day.

On the second day, we hurried to the Ministry to get in line to submit the application form. The tail of the queue was at Narayanhiti Durbar Museum where we popped in and waited for our turn. Patiently, we waited, and waited, and waited. The sun was shining bright and the blue sky had no sign of rain. We had reached the Ministry of Education and Sports when a police officer approached and said, “Please come tomorrow, you cannot submit the application today.”  Wow, a whole day lost and we hadn’t even submitted the application.

On the third day, we wised up and arrived much earlier, before sunrise, around 7 in the morning. Surely this was early enough that we would manage to submit the application—especially considering the government offices do not open before 10. Another journey in the queue had begun and we patiently waited our turn. Finally, we managed to secure a place at the window where the prized application would be submitted.

But a government officer on the other side of the window said, “You cannot write your application in ball-pen; write it in jell-pen or print it with the help of a computer and bring it again.” As we disappointedly trudged home, ordinary citizens of New Nepal, we took solace in the face that we had at least made many friends during our days of line-waiting.

On the fourth day, we arrived at the MoFA earliest yet, while the city was still sleeping, around 4 am. Our beloved queue had now become routine and we were no longer surprised to end the day without having accomplished our goal, nor to plan to return the following day.

Finally, on the fifth day, we were able to submit an application after answering a few questions asked by a government officer. Lesson learned: It is hard enough to be a V.I.P. in Nepal; it is even harder to be an ordinary person.

Good approach

The National Interest Preservation Committee deserves praise for their proposal regarding cross-border movement (“ID cards proposed for cross-border movement”, May 21, Page 4). Once I met a wise man who said the world was not divided and was one happy family. But today the world is divided, and while differences are healthy and necessary, they sometimes breed ill intentions that need to be checked. So it is good to monitor the cross-border movement by making ID cards compulsory for travellers.

Save Nepal

What is going on in our country? As an ordinary Nepali citizen, I am afraid that in the future there will be no adults left in our country. Why would anyone want to stay in Nepal when it cannot even fulfill the basic needs of its citizens namely electricity (16 hours load-shedding today; 24 hours tomorrow?), clean drinking water, security, employment, transportation. It seems that all political parties are only for power, not for the welfare of the people. I wish I was the prime minister of Nepal. I would have rather died trying to improve people's lives than further depriving them of their basic needs.

What is your Resolution for 2009?

This is little difficult for me-

As I am very bad at making plans and it is good idea to make a plan and work for these plans ahead. How about doing the things you like most at a given time? How about doing what your heart says? How about not planning ahead in advance.

There are people who waste time making calendars and put there events in the calendar but I just try to remember everything in my little head.

In 2008, I has some things in my mind. For example,

I will write around 365 posts in 2008 and if you will check now at the end of 2008 you will find that, I have really accomplished what I thought.
http://www.mybheja.blogspot.com
I am little doubtful if I will post 365 articles or posts in the same blog. It will depend on which place I will live. If I remain in Finland then I think, yes but if not, then I doubt on my own abilities this year.I do not know what would be my resolution in 2009 but let me try to make the list and see if I will achieve by the end of the year 2009.

There is some career accomplishments, personal voyage and many other random stuffs which I personally would like to do in 2009.

"Humans desires never end, every time we want more and more-it just never ends."

I truly believe in the above cited quotes. Therefore for coming new year 2009 which is-
2+0+0+9=11
Total is equal to Eleven

There is a book written by Paulo, called "Eleven Minutes". I have not yet read that book, I wish I could.

-May be Paulo will post his book "Eleven Minutes" in the blog and I will read them in 2009.

But just wait a moment, When we add "Eleven" i.e. 1+1=2

The final single number after the end of year 2009 is,

2+0+0+9=11 =1+1=2 (Two)

Two has a great meaning, it could mean "good" or "bad", it may also mean "right" or "wrong". In technology two means, 10 (Binary representation of decimal number 2)

When we go further deep we can find that in Electricity two mean either "on" or "off".

Now-let me see what this two has to do in my personal life. Well, Oh-

Alright, I got it.

I am presently in Finland, and Two could mean-I can go back to my home country in Nepal or might again, come back from Nepal to further study here in Finland.

May be, Two means I would have two wifes. I think I have to work very hard to make this happen. Simply because Generally, People say that "Behind every successful man, there is a women". Since the economic crisis is going on these days, jobs are being cut and there are loads of problems floating in around the air. Therefore, So, I think if someday I am going to become successful then, I need not just only "a women" but may be "two women".

What else two could mean in my life,
May be I will finish my second book which I am working on currently.Since this book will be the work of fiction, and I will try to find a publisher for this one. I do not want them to "self-publish". Simply because, it does not reach to wide audience until and unless you are famous.

What else, May be couple of "Scientific Journal" should be researched and published. But I still do not know if I will first be given any position for the study. Especially the research funding for the work by the University.

I think in 365 days these resolutions are good enough and if I complete even half of these then I think I have accomplished what I have promised with myself.

Now as you said Paulo, that you will again post these list at the end of year 2009, I will summarize them below.

1) Post 365 articles, opinions and views on the blog with average post of one article every day.
http://www.mybheja.blogspot.com

2) If possible read the book "Eleven minutes" by Paulo. (if posted for free or given to me by Paulo as gift)

3) Travel back to home country Nepal (and come back again in Finland.) If not offered the Residence permit on any grounds such as study or work here in Finland then I have to see the other opportunities elsewhere.

4) Try to make two wives. The term wives does not mean that I will marry them officially but I prefer to call "wife" rather than calling them as "girl friend" simply because, I believe the term "girl friend" is misleading in this era where you keep on changing them every time. My definition of "wife" is those ladies who are dedicated and committed to you as much as you are committed and dedicated to them. (Both of them different, both of them should like me more than they like anybody else, both of them should care more about me more than any one in the entire world, both of them should help me in any given ways and both of them I should like as well more than my life.)

5) Finish my second book. A work of fiction. Currently I have started to think on this project. Let us see if I can complete it by the end of year 2009.

6)Find the suitable publisher for the my second book. (If not, then self publish.) This one is very difficult, I know.

7) May be one two papers on "Scientific Journal or Conference" by the end of the year through my research work.

OK, I must stop now. This is already very ambitious dreams and even if I complete half of them or some of them, then I will be satisfied.

Satisfaction will not come to me, if I will complete these above mentioned "To do" lists but the real satisfaction will come to me when I will start doing them.

Therefore, I would like to stop here by saying that-

"Whatever you do, whatever you get- at the end the most important of all, simply ask one question:
Are you satisfied?
If your listen from your inner voice-yes, then you are the most happiest on earth, if no-then try to ask again and say, why not?"

Good luck to you all, in 2009 !

नेपाल एकदिन फर्कन्छु

Subject: नेपाल एकदिन फर्कन्छु

A very touching poem by Birkhe Maila published in Sajha.com

I hope they do.

What if your dream is very near and you suddenly loose your dream. What if you are very close to winning but just in a second you loose. What if you were the first in the race suddenly with the flick of your eyes you become last.

These questions are not joke. It happens to us. Some of us have even gone through these circumstances in our life too. What are the major phenonomen or why are these step making us think that we are not getting what we would have got.

Why most of the times we have to think that we are making the error in our life and nothing good is going on. What happens if something always works perfectly and just in a sudden twist of the time it changes all along.

What would you do then ? Will you die just thinking you have not achieved what you dreamed of or will you survive to do it all over again ? All the our pleasures lies in pain. Either the pain is of some one or you yourself, it depends.

The mind is the chooser and it choses that which you do not have in the first circumstances. Why do not people have the satisfaction of what they have. We always are looking for the change and the change does not come automatically. You have to go and fetch it then it will come along your way.

The vision is unlimited and you simply need a thinking to make your vision a reality. Those people who are on the top of bureaucracy are doing nothing in the context of country development.
Some time back, I used to read the newspaper of what is going on the context of Nepal and what are those who are leading all the way are doing but now I think I have to look again and see that nothing is going on in this context any longer.

As I cannot see any difference in terms of our country development I think we have to think again. Do we really need a political bullshit ? Why do we need those leaders and those people who are useless ? Why do we need those people who are just a statute and nothing more than that.

Why ?

Every body will give me an opinion and opinion is only the personal things. It has nothing to do with the development in any respect. Why don't any of the leader stand up and say that-
"I will not try, I will do". Why ?

Why don't any of the leaders simply say that "I have done". Doing and having done something is always a different thing. Those leaders who says, they have done are doing nothing and those who have have done and do not say are already a great leader.

We need such great leaders to lead our country. Come on, When will I see my dreams becoming reality. When would my son wake up from the peaceful sleep saying, "Dad, lets go and play". When ?

These question will always be remained unanswered. I do not know if they will ever be answered by our country leaders. I hope they do.

Happy New Year 2065

Happy New Year 2065. We are humans from future. Many people in the world can learn a good lesson from us. HOw ? We can teach people how one can be very close to Nature and learn a lesson from the its environment and surroundings.

Nepal is soon going to write consitutency assembly which is vital for whole country. I would like to say that- Indians we are no longer, Chinese we do not want to become so Let us be true Nepali.

People generally kill the the things they love most. We like something so much that we cannot live without it but generally we do kill those things. It is easy. It is easy to kill the things that you love. We should kill the old political rule, autocratic rule of King and we all know the fact that Nepal was only Hindu Kingdom in the world but we kill that, Now we are secular kingdom.

That was just an simple example. Happy New Year 2065 to all the people in the country, May GOD gives you what you all people desire, want and deserve in life, in society and in country.

One thing we Nepali lack is we need to think beyond we can think. We should not be limited to our thinking. We like our friends, we like to gossip, do chit-chat, have fun with friends, drink, dope, smoke but are we doing any thing except just following the stupid trend ?

Why is it difficult for us to change ? It is very easy.If every Nepali citizen belives in "doing" Our country will surely become "developed". We like the way we are. We are lazy, we do not want to work, we do not want to fight and to some extent it is good not to do anything however it is only good when your brain really needs such moments. It is not good when you make such acitivites as your hobbie.

Playing politics is good but let us leave it to our leaders, we should not play politics among ourselves. It is not good practice. Their are people who do not want to accept the fact, do not want to liste, the biggest problem those people will face is that they will not be able to give. Which means that, It will be easy for them to fake.

People always wants to show off. When I was 15-16 years of age I too was going through the same phase. I liked to show to people that I am the best, Whatever I do are good and whatever I say is correct, whatever others are saying is not correct-I do not want to take what they are saying to me. When you will not accept what others are saying to you or some how you will listen for a moment and you will try to avoid it afterwards then you are being a victim of yourself.

Do not try to destroy yourself, do not be some body else. Just be yourself. Do what you like to do, talk with those whom you like to talk, whereas one thing you have to remember is that-Listen.

Learn from what others have to say. Always remember that we are following the path which has beeen already followed by some one else. The name of those who already have followed the path before might be different, their body, religion, caste, culture might be different but they already have achieved what we are trying to achieve.

Therefore Just don't try to be imitator. If you see Buddha in the street Kill him. Only because "do not try to become Buddha". Try to be yourself.

Nepal is my birthplace where I was born, the land which gave me my space to be what I am now. I like that land. Every body does. Only thing I am trying to say is that do not just focus on your own land. Respect others people land too. Every country is unique, every person is unique and every religion is unique. We do have to respect each other only then we will end war.

My opinions might seem stupid, might be absurd, might be useless but these are my own thoughts and I do not want to blame anybody for that. If you do not like it, do not read it if you like it read it. We all have freedom of speech, space, silence, whatso ever.

This new year let us change ourselves, our mind, the way we think and the way we behave. Let us be true Nepali only by beliving in "doing".

We are ahead !

Welcome to one of the must visit country in the world. It is the beauty of Nature, creation of creator to show his creation itself. It is one of the places in earth where one should at least once visit or should have a dream to visit. It is called as "world of its own". The desire and destination of men can be different and journey is the most precious aspect which leads you to either of them. Today In west, people are trying to find some alternative to fuels, we have already started our campaign long back. We are ahead in future not because we lack oil or we have to battle to gain it. It is because we are saving energy. Imagine a situation where you have to stay eight hours without electricity. Imagine it now for your city for example New York City or Los Angles or California. Well, the imagination does not seem to be imaginative and it really seems stupid but if such think happens what will be your alternatives? We are far behind in global economy, we are regarded as third world, we come from place where people have no money to buy food but they will have smile to show you that we are happiest people in the planet. According to global happy index we are quite ahead in this context. Stop; do not go away we also are ahead in time. The yet new year for our country is around the corner. We are reaching to 2065 B.S. Comparatively we are quite far away living in third world at least in dates. Beauty lies in eyes of beholder. You have to come and visit country full of beauty to believe your eyes and ears that Nepal is happy country in Global World. We do not have Nuclear weapons, we do not have mind blowing economy, infrastructure and capital incomes but one thing we have- Peace. The country is progressing with its own political assembly poles and the leaders are leading it for the well being of country and society. Every country would have version of "this is mine, not yours". Our history always reminds us that we are from the land of "Buddha, and Highest peak in world called Mount Everest". We also are from the land of those brave "Veterans, Ghorkhali who fight not only for their own home land but still doing military services in many Western worlds. It will also be noted that we are different as each country is different. See the flags of all the countries you will surely see why you must come to visit country of rich Natural resources. We have never been ruled nor will be ruled despite being in between two giants in South Asia, India and China. We are separating two giants Nation in not only in South Asia but soon emerging to become super power countries. Nature is one of finest aspect and has huge potential for coming generation of scientist, economist, researchers and entire human beings to look forward to in coming years. We are not quite well prepared for it; it will be too late when we would realize that we have been affected by its Unexpected Nature. We are ahead in learning from Nature only because we are very close to it. Imagine a situation where you do not have to in contact with any one for week and you have been given your personal privacy, security and respect as if you are GOD. In Bible it is said that, "It took six days for GOD to make this planet and seventh day he rested". If I would be given an opportunity to ask a question I would ask where GOD did went on the seventh day. The answer is question itself, he took rest but where? Nepal. Visit and see with your own eyes. It is the New Year celebration happening in one corner of globe where all other corners are having busy working life. Welcome to visit Nepal for its cultural heritage, future technology which is the “Power of Green” as said by Thomas Friedman.

America is preparing for the alternatives to find the solution from environment; we are finding how we can get more close to it. The world is yours only when you think world as one single entity. We have more than 200 countries divided according to power of religion, politics, economy and global infrastructure so on and so forth however, we forget that we are humans with one the one common dimension, color (may be different because of adaptation according to environment) , ability to think, and sensitive to emotions. We think we are close to Nature and Nature teaches us thousand plus one lessons in one day, nothing comes easy to it as nothing comes easy to us. Let us make it one not by dividing it into pieces for smaller cause but for the unexpected behavior of Nature for far greater cause than we can even imagine.

Need of a statesman

With a number of political parties being formed to promote communal interests in the country, I wonder if the country, which was united by the great leader Prithvi Narayan Shah, is not once again on the verge of being divided along communal lines.Furthermore, I am surprised that the SPA government, despite its promises to hold the election on schedule, has not been able to address the most pressing public concerns, let alone resolve other pressing issues. While the possibility of a free and fair election appears to me a distant possibility, I do not believe that the leaders currently running the government are capable of steering the country out of the troubled waters. In my opinion, what the country needs above all else is a capable statesman, who is committed to address the concerns of the nation rather than a particular group or community.

“Blessed are the peacemakers”

(Picture taken from: http://www.freespiritart.com/images/holding-peace-by-howe.jpg)

We all want peace: peace of mind, peace in the family and community, between countries, peace with our environment. There is scarcely anyone who does not yearn for peace. But how many of us are prepared to pay the price of peace? We need to love each other; have compassion and be prepared to sacrifice for one another and work for togetherness and peace. Love and peace will see all people united by the bonds of brotherhood, moving onward, forward. For God and religion cannot and ought not to be kept out of this vision, even though people tend to discredit religion these days. For it is not religion that has failed us, it is we who have failed religion. We only speak of religion; we do not bear witness to it in deeds of daily living, to the teachings of the great prophets.

It is life that is needed, not words. You may recite prayers, chant hymns and sing songs of praise; you may read from the scriptures and frequent places of worship but if you do not imbibe at least some of the wisdom, are you any better than a tape recorder? You may write wonderful commentaries on the Bhagavad Gita or any other world scriptures, but if you do not reflect the wisdom of these scriptures in word and action, how are you any better than a desktop printer? "Blessed are the peacemakers", said Jesus. The world today needs peacemakers, not those who merely talk of peace but those who carry peace within and transmit it to those around them.

True love is selfless. And such love can bring about lasting peace. Why are we not becoming doers and just becoming talkers. Why is whole country in trauma, totally paralyzed, disabling situation. Who is to blame for this? Government, Political Parties, Madhes, Pahadi and who else?

We are suffering from a problems and that should be considered a problem for Nepalese not just Madhesis, Pahadi or any other parties or communities. The problem is common for all of us, and we should try to find a common solution for it instead of fighting with each other. When are we going to do this? I am certain that till the day I am alive, I am not going to see peaceful Nepal. I will not expect my country to develop as long as I am alive- I will not believe in any politicians because I know they do not speak the truth now what is that I am expecting from my motherland? I am expecting just a peace.

Am I asking too much for this? As a common Nepali citizens, denizens we all have right to ask for the term called peace but as Jesus said, “Blessed are the peacemakers” Let pray that we can soon see those peacemakers for our country, by our country and in our country.

First to use Future Technology

From 20 years from now, This is what we will have. There is so much of money being invested in alternative forms for energy. This is what we would have in our near future. The future world. We would rather save the energy in this way. I remember during Jan23-Jan24, There was a fuel strike in country Nepal. Well, It seems that the first person to use such kind of alternative transportation system will be country Nepal. Nepal is always counted from the bottom of the list but in this case we might have a chance of saying that we are the first nations in the world to use such kind of energy saving transportation system. We are quite ahead in the calender. We are going at very fast pace. The whole world is now just in 2008 and our calender says that we are in 2064. Well we are old people then from anywhere in the world. We are so mature, and we are so emotionally fragile. No one in the whole world can break that. If one day oil finishes in this world then- surely we will have no other options and it will definitely bring lot of trouble to many people all over the world but it won't make mjavascript:void(0)uch of difference to our country because we are practising this technology from now. We are waiting in the queue for hours and whole day just to fill the 2 ltrs of petrol for our bike. It shows that we are quite ahead in every situation and we can easily predict the future. Every human who is in Nepal is thinking to migrate because one day whole of Europeans and Americans will be moving to Asia and all Asian people will be moving to Europe and America. This is true. I heard a news yesterday that 100 of Nepali were missing from some industry in US. Wow, It may be surprising case to those people but for us it is just a news.

Now the lesson to learn from this article is that- Be prepared in advance because we are very good at assuming and predicting things in near future. We are very good human beings but our political and geographical atmosphere is making all of us as super humans. We are the first super humans in this whole planet cheers !!!

Where is Nepal ?

There is always a fight between land, power and money. The fight will never stop until this world will exist. Looking at this picture says it all where is Nepal ? India thinks that it has been ruling the Asia. Right from the past to the present and in near future it assumes that India will rule the world one day. No country will rule this planet. The world has the difference because of these attributes such as land. The biggest issue is that we all want our share of land and our share of everything. There is always my.. There is always my life, my land, my things, and my wife. We all humans want to rule this planet. We always assume some facts that never is ours. Nothing is ours. We must understand that it is good to have differences but the differences should not be misunderstood. We are good at assuming thigs. The one who created this would surely not like this. See the picture and tell me where is the country called Nepal ? Where is it located ? Where are the people of this country ? Just showing one references about the early dominance of the country does not reflect any values and does not give any meaning to the map. Well, every thing can be acheived by the power. The big always dominates the small and that is way it is. Welcome to the world, the presence of the country called Nepal does not exist !
