Can culture change anything ?

Here is one article that I wrote of Paulo's blog. The question is "Do you think that culture can change anything in this world?"


Good question Paulo,

Culture a word which is used to describe people, language, places, events, festivals, country, religion, behavior, and most importantly boundary.

Why I said, “boundary” ? I am saying boundary because, culture is bounded by certain region or let us say-it has some space which describes above elements in more confined ways.

Let me come back to your question of- Can culture change anything ? When I see this question, I have many things in my mind which describes if these many things will be able to change by the definition of culture that I just gave.

“Culture”, If you deeply see the letters of the word then you will have some idea about the name given to this word. Take more deeper look for a moment and see if you can see the letters of these words- does it make any sense to you ?

OK, Now here is the twist- “C” of the culture is for the change. Human beings from several hundreds years of the civilization has gone through many changes. Only thing that is permanent in this entire world is change, Without change there is nothing in the world. If we stop the change, we will stop our civilization.

Now let me take you more deeper on to this letter of “C”, C is for creativity, C is also for Computers, C is for circumstances, C is also for commitment, C is for change, C is also for cultivation, C is for civilization, C is also for country, C is for comment, C is also for Clock !

The idea behind explaining the letter C with the many different words is just because, these words are inter-related. Just put these words in a paper and try to link them together. We are sure to get the answers of your question.

The answer is yes. Culture has changed and it will change many things that are unknown to us. One example would be- President-elect Barack Obama, who being an African-American is not the president of United States. The main vision of his campaign was not anything else then-”Change”, Yes we can !

If a country like United States of America, can change then any country can change based on the culture. Culture is for change. It comes with different taste which becomes the taste of our tounge.

Let me explain why ? For example How about eating the same food for more than a week ? How will you feel after eating the same food again and again time after time. What will you then you do ? If you have to do these for more than 5 years of your life then will you able to survive ? What if, in this circumstances somebody comes and says to you that, “Hello sir, will you like a change in your food?”.

If you have not been sick then ofcourse, you will receive this gift from that very person who just came and offered you the different food.

Therefore, Culture is same in that respect. Culture is made just for the change. Nothing else. !

What is wrong about being nostalgic?

"During a full week in Myspace, I changed my mood from mischievous to nostalgic. Once done that, I started to receive messages from readers asking me what was wrong - given that some considered that being nostalgic was a bad thing in itself.
But I don’t think that being nostalgic for a week is such a problem.
So, here is the question of the week: how do see nostalgia?"

In response here is what I have to say-

When I googled the word “nostalgic” I got following definition-
“a wistful desire to return in thought or in fact to a former time in one’s life, to one’s home or homeland, or to one’s family and friends; a sentimental yearning for the happiness of a former place or time”

The desire of being in the past or former time in one’s life. Many people go in that phase, and most of the times I become nostalgic too.

It is the wish of going home, reaching to the past very good memory one had and now in the present he cannot find such memories again. Being myself so far from the experience which I had achieved is asking me to become nostalgic too.

Too much of everything is bad, that is true. However, I think I like being nostalgic many of the times in my life. I remember old days and want to go back in those days or remember going back in time.

It has nothing to do with being sad, being sad is different then being nostalgic. Sad is just like feeling unhappy, sad is not in the present, sad is something related with worry but nostalgic is remembering the past or want or desire of going through the moments in the past.

We always want to remember our past and want to go back in our past simply because it is good for us too, to learn from our past and see what is going on in our present moment. It gives an impression to the people that being nostalgic the person is feeling sad but eventually that is not true.

Having sad that nostalgic is not being sad, I would rather add that, When a person is being nostalgic he goes in the moment of silent and thinks or remembers his experience about the event that happened, he sometimes may even remember those memories; it can also result in the laughter, it can also result in pain, it can also result in smile.

Sadness is always with us, it is the integral part of our day to day life. Happiness is something which a human will dream to achieve except me. I have the proud feeling that, I am some kind of happiness but again, that is wrong.

Being nostalgic is true to many of us, and we go or become nostalgic which does not mean we are sad but it means we are feeling little bit about our past and we want to cherish those memories once again in the near future.

Study in Finland, think again.

Welcome to Finland a country of thousand lakes. Silence and Peace every where even the birds and animals would not like to sing a song to you. It is good that you will get personal privacy, lot of space and silence., But there are things which you will make you worry then anything else.

The bureaucracy and official stuff is very annoying. In the world, a student is same every where. Then some stupid divided the world into three phases. He called them First world,Second world and Third world. According to the economy, infrastructure and many others factors. What is the fault of student who is in third world or is in first world ? The fault is that- He does not get any benefit from his home country and he has to show that he has enough money to feed himself in Finnish land.

It will make you feel as if you are really some alien living in this world. It brings lot of psychological problem in the mind of those who come and study. I do not know what others feel but I think I have felt this way. It make me think why I was born in third world and not in the first world.

What is the fault of human living either in third world or any world ? Human is human everywhere. Yesterday, I was giving this interview and a Interviewer she asked me- what is the difference between studying in Finland and studying in your country ? I said to her that- "I do not see any difference because I see only similarities". When we see differences in people we will get divided, that is why we are from different countries and different way of looking at others, different religion, difference in everything. But once we see the similarities we come close to other person and we connect ourselves with others.

There are lot of psychological problem one has to face when one comes in foreign land for the study. First is financial, second is study, third is personal and fourth is dealing with people in foreign land. Financial will always be kind of problem for not only third world students but to any student from any where in world. Until and unless he comes from rich family or have good savings of his own.

Study is based on hard work and effort the student puts in it. He can go miles and he can do what the world sees today as development all are with the effort of students doing hard work to foster technological innovation and for the well-being of society.

Personal is left with personal problems. One can have thousand problems but I would not discuss this because every body has their own problems and they deal with it, in there own ways.

The last one is interesting because, here I am talking about Finland and I have not seen any Finns who are not helpful or not very cool. They are one the best humans you will ever encounter in your life. They are very nice and humble. They love peace and they appreciate it. May be I have been lucky to see only good people or may be I see only similarities in them that is why I have not met any people in this land with differences of my country, religion, race or anything.

It is not good to give Visa to Foreign Student only for 1 year. May be they have to change the rule they have made. They should learn from USA or from other rest of the world where they give permission for students to stay for 5 year at once. But here we have to face the problem of psychological torture every once in a year. I do not know why they have made such stupid system. I think it really needs to be changed. It has to be changed because if one cannot afford to study surely one will not choose to study in Finland but if one thinks he can afford it, why do a person has to go through the psyhological problems of proving each time that he can really afford to study ?

It is my humble request to those who wish to come to Finland for study, please think again. If you are really financially strong then only choose your destination to study in Finland but once you think you cannot afford it please do not come here. Go to USA, as most of the people do and most of the students in our country do as well. At least you will not have to face the problems of proving that you can afford your study.

Those who are making rules to govern the country should update there rules. Those who are doing official bureaucracy stuffs should understand that humans are same everywhere. Those who do not have vision to see a peaceful world should not be given rights to make rules. If I were to make a rule, definitely I would have changed these things for the well-being of students.

Why the bumblebee flies ?

"I’m back from Milan and on Thursday I had a conference at the Teatro Dal Verme with the mathematician Michael Atiyah. This very important matematician made a very interesting speech in which he mentions the bumblebee. Indeed, according to the laws of aerodynamics and of physics, the bumbleblee should not fly. Yet, as Sir Michael Atyiah said : “the bumblebee flies because it doesn’t know about the technicalities of aerodynamics.”
That leads us to the question of the week:
How many things we don’t do in life because we think beforehand that they are impossible? Like everybody says that the bulblebee is incapable of flying? "

In response to his question:-



IMpossible is the word which if broken becomes I M possible. Everyday we wake up and we think that certain things in life are possible and some are impossible. We then judge before doing the thing. Before the reality of experiencing we judge ourselves that we cannot do it.

To those who do not experience and judge by themselves that those things cannot be done, I would like to ask one question- Why are you not trying ? Give a shot and then see. Life is for a moment, and why not to live in the moment rather think of future and past. When a person is capable of living in moment then he is capable of making things possible.

There are many things we cannot try and some times we have to just leave them not thinking those are impossible but by giving some shorts of priorities to them and letting them go.

Nothing could be possible until we have a mind which will let us think that everything is possible. An animal can finds its own way to the finding the needs and fulfill its desire.

A fly is fly it means it has a capability of flying. I do not know whether that type of flies can really fly or not but I think it tries its level best before it dies.

“Try, try and try until you die”. Every thing is based on making things possible and not thinking ahead before giving it a full experience and knowing by own-self. When a person knows by himself or herself then he can easily teach others about what he felt when he tried the things which he was assuming were impossible in the first place.

Object near us.

When we are in one place, one country and one culture the main idea is that we get acquainted with the object around it. What I mean to say is Suppose we are in one country for some specific period of time then we start being close to that country, their people, culture and tradition.

We get used to the things we are close to us and some way we develop a mechanism where we talk with them. I know it is funny but this is what happens. We talk with these object and when we are alone these object will teach us many different things in many different ways.

When we go to the new places suddenly then it is difficult for us to get used to that place, the object close in that place and basically those objects thing that why to talk with this person ? Why to trust him ? What is that we will have common in us ? Therefore it is difficult for both us and elements present around us to communicate.

Now there is also many different issues,which are unnoticed. The main issue is it takes time to adopt, get acquainted and feel the environment or get used to it. But I would rather say Time is movement. When we move we generate or go step further and that is time.

Well, take an example of being alone in a room for some 1 year and suddenly move to another place and to another room. Will their be any difference ? The answer is given above. But you can surely argue this with me because we live in free world and every body has rights to express their opinion and we should value each of them.

Paralyzed Kathmandu

Welcome to the Kathmandu city, capital of Nepal. Country of its own. We treat our guest as god, we are country of this... country of that... but one we lack basic sanitation to our own country men. The city dwellers, pedestrians and all the people lack food, electricity, petrol and some basic things that is required in survive in normal daily life.

To tell you the reality we are paralyzed. We cannot move. We do not have petrol. We are good at words and only good at words.In paper, it says that we are second in highest to produce electricity but we have to buy electricity from the country where we sell electricity. Why ? We lack petrol and we cannot move. Now all Nepali should realize that the main idea behind not providing the petrol is that we are far sighted people we know that in future the whole world will one day face the same consequences therefore we are practicing this from now. See, We are quite ahead in the dates.


Today we are 2064 while the world is just 2008. We are traveling in future while the world is traveling in past. It does not matter for us if we are not given an opportunity for job, for basic sanitation or for electricity we will be silent and listen to what our government do because whatever they do, they do for us, for country and for ourselves.

We love our government, our prime minister, home minister and their relatives because they might be relative to each other but they are "my relatives too".

Take it.

Take everything in your life as positive. There are things that your friends, relative and all people around you will tell about you. The day you are born and from the very day you start learning the things and start to know about the world, family,friends- from that onwards you will get loads of information about you. Every body would like to give you some suggestion, comments about this and about that. Take everything inside you as positive. There will be times when you will also have to deal with negative comments. But these comments should not stop you. Take it. Nothing wrong is going to happen in them. Once some 7 months ago, I myself used to teach to some 45 students in one college. It was a very good and nice experience which I myself achieved in very little time. At the last lecture that I had to give, I asked the students to give me the feedback about the course. There were very good and encouraging feedback and comments about the way I taught them. There were also very rude and negative comments. So, Life is just like this- We are some random particle in constantly in motion. Sometimes we some how come across the other particles just like that and to learn from them. It is very good thing if we can share, care and tear the differences that exist between us and them. Positive does not imply anything here. Positive can be any words, any gesture or any comments. Negative can be all these things but in opposite way. However, We all should understand the fact that it is not going to last long. We are temporary. Nothing is permanent. Let us not assume our life as permanent living species in this planet. We are here for some task and let us do that task to our best of caliber. Take it.
